Azima Shakoor, the minister of legal affairs at the president’s office, has said she is standing by President Abdulla Yameen.

She said this in a tweet on Friday after the media reported that she has fled the Maldives.

Azima Shakoor, a lawyer who works closely with the president, said in the tweet that she is at home and have no plans to leave.

Opposition coalition leaders have sent a letter to the Supreme Court, requesting the dismissal of President Abdulla Yameen and temporarily appointing Vice President Abdulla Jihad to the position.

Regarding this, the legal affairs minister said the apex court has no authority to make such a ruling.

Supreme Court on Thursday ruled to release several jailed politicians and to nullify the Election Commission (EC)’s ruling that 12 opposition lawmakers have lost their seats.

While the court emphasized that it should be implemented immediately, relevant authorities have yet to make any moves.
