Security for Justices of the Supreme Court of the Maldives has been slashed.
RaajjeMV understands that the decision was taken Thursday evening.
The decision followed Supreme Court’s decision to rule that the Elections Commission (EC) decision to strip 12 sitting MPs from their seats as unconstitutional. The apex court had also called on to free jailed political figures.
The ruling issued by the five Justices state that EC decision was declared unconstitutional, as their decision was taken without first creating laws that are mandated under the motion on floor crossing.
The ruling issued by Supreme Court also stated that former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim, former defense Minister Mohamed Nazim, Adhaalath Party leader Sheikh Imran Abdullah, former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, Muhthaaz Muhsin, Dhiggaru Constituency MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon, Judge Ahmed Nihan and businessman Hamid Ismail must be released.
