The validity of Thursday night’s Supreme Court ruling is yet to be decided, the government has said.
Attorney General Mohamed Anil was one of the panelists at a press conference, where he said that the government is in discussion with the Supreme Court.
Anil said that the administration needs to adequately decipher the legal grounds on which the decision was made.
Defence Minister Adam Shareef described the current conditions in the country as ‘volatile and a risk to national security’ before saying that the support of law enforcement officers is greatly needed.
The Supreme Court ruled to have the criminal sentences passed against several prominent figures in the local political sphere repealed.
While the government says that the validity of the apex court’s ruling is yet undecided, the police has already announced their decision to see it enforced.
