Doctors have advised that former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor to seek treatment abroad for his vision issues, now severely impaired due to glaucoma.
Adeeb’s wife Maryam Nashwa confirmed the news in a tweet posted on Thursday, following a visit to jail.
Quoting her husband, Nashwa said his condition had become progressively worse and that doctors had advised him to seek treatment with a specialist abroad.
Following this revelation, Nashwa said both the family and lawyers were attempting to procure the medical documents issued by the doctor.
Adeeb was diagnosed with glaucoma, kidney stones and an internal cyst following his arrest in 2015.
He had been advised to undergo cancer screening two years back; the Government had denied repeated requests to go abroad for cancer screening.
Family, defense, politicians, civil society organizations, both local and international, had called on the state to grant him medical leave.
