Government restricting constitutional right to remove presidents: MP Abdulla Shahid
He said this speaking to Raajje Television on Tuesday night
Article 100 of the constitution dictates that the president and vice president of an administration can be removed
The parliamentarian said that President Abdulla Yameen and his government has been a constant threat to the separation of powers in the country

MP Abdulla Shahid, who is also the former speaker of parliament, has said that the government is working to restrict the people’s constitutional right to remove leaders.

Speaking to RaajjeTV on Tuesday night, Shahid said that the legal criteria to file for a motion to impeach the president has been met.

Article 100 of the constitution dictates that the president and vice president of an administration can be removed on the grounds of violating the law, constitution, and a tenet of Islam.

A motion can also be filed on the grounds of misconduct – any unsuitable behavior – and incompetence.

The parliamentarian said that President Abdulla Yameen and his government has been a constant threat to the separation of powers in the country.
