Officers of the police have searched the homes of those behind a Facebook page that sexualized photographs of children and encouraged pedophilia.

Officers searched a number of floors of the Himmiyaage building in Maafannu of capital city Malé, and confiscated a number of items.

The building is home to former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s ex-secretary Ahmed Sofwan, although the floors searched had been ones that were rented.

Facebook removed the page earlier this week after the police requested as such as part of their investigation.

Some of the comments on the page are heavily derogatory to the children depicted in the photographs and some its followers go as far as to say that they wish to have them ‘impregnated’.
