Impeachment Motion
Have to declare my impeachment was illegal: ex-VP Jameel
Maldives does not have a history of taking best practices of democracy
Govt. needs to be run as per constitution
If MPs go into the Parliament, then significant changes can be seen

Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed says that there was no reason to bring another person into the leadership and that it must be declared that his impeachment was unconstitutional.

Speaking to RaajjeTV’s ’60 minutes’ program on Sunday evening, regarding the impeachment motion filed in Supreme Court by the opposition, Dr. Jameel said that Maldives did not have a history of taking in best practices of democracy, as demonstrated by other nations. He said the present administration had no intention of running the nation according to the Constitution and was denying every opportunity to do so.

Dr. Jameel was impeached in 2015, where he was not given chance to respond to the impeachment motion.

Dr. Jameel added that based on the current Parliament status, significant changes can be expected if MPs are allowed into the Parliament.

He said his impeachment must be declared void and that there was no other reason to bring in another individual to that position.

The actions of the Government, he noted, were not hidden to public. The former VP said that the biggest issue facing the nation was the enslavement to one individual, which should not be allowed to thrive.
