Police failed to find any evidence for MP Faris Maumoon’s case after concluding their search at the home of his father and opposition leader, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
MP Faris, who was released after six months in jail, was arrested again on Saturday and was remanded for 15 days later that night.
Police searched Faris’ apartment building as well.
After searching Gayoom’s home, police delivered a document which states that they did not find any evidence for Faris’ case.
Faris was arrested on allegations of bribing fellow lawmakers and planning to overthrow the government.
Gayoom in a tweet accused the defence force of failing to provide him and his family with security, legally required for former presidents, by allowing intrusive police searches.
