The investigation team for Faris’ case, is not under the command of commissioner Areef

The investigation of MP Faris Maumoon is moving forward without police commissioner Ahmed Areef and the Criminal Court’s chief judge Adam Arif.

RaajjeMV understands that chief judge Arif was on a two-day holiday when the court warrant was issued for MP Faris’ arrest on Saturday.

Judge Arif, who presides over cases of prominent politicians, was apparently unaware of the arrest warrant, which was issued by Judge Hussain Shaheed, who was just recently appointed to the Criminal Court.

A trusted source also told RaajjeMV that the special investigation team picked for Faris’ case, is not under the command of commissioner Areef. MP Ahmed Mahloof made a similar claim on Twitter.

Prior to his arrest, Faris told journalists that he had met with commissioner Areef who informed that President Abdulla Yameen had been repeatedly ordering the police service to arrest him. But the police service has denied that the meeting took place.

The spokesperson of the president’s office confirmed that President Yameen had requested Faris’ arrest as per the court order.

There were also reports that commissioner Areef was dismissed or side-lined from his duties.
