Maldives Police Service has refuted MP Faris Muamoon’s statement that Commissioner Ahmed Areef had spoken with him.

A statement from the police said Commissioner Areef remains committed to his position as chief of law enforcement.

The statement also refuted reports that Areef is facing suspension for the aforesaid actions, which the police called ‘entirely false’.

MP Faris Maumoon on Saturday said President Abdulla Yameen had asked the police commissioner to have the parliamentarian arrested.

He told journalists gathered near his apartment building duing a police search, that Commissioner Ahmed Areef himself had revealed this.
