Police refutes claims of Commissioner Areef's resignation

The Maldives Police Service has refuted claims that Commissioner Ahmed Areef intends to resign from his position.
Police denied this in a statement they released moments after these reports surfaced on Saturday.
Some media outlets reported that Areef had already resigned, and that he had done so ‘in protest to government oppression’ of members of the opposition.
This statement was also supported by a tweet from MP Ahmed Mahloof, who said that he has recieved similar reports.
Areef was appointed to his position as commissioner in December 2015.
