The Civil Service Commission is to bring about changes to the salary frameworks of state employees, effective this February.

RaajjeMV understands that this change will involve salary hikes for employees that work in a number of positions at government offices and state institutions.

Finance Minister Ahmed Munavvar had also confirmed this during an interview with Channel 13, a pro-government television channel.

The ministry’s proposed budget for this year, which the parliament passed contentiously with the opposition having boycott the vote, allocates about MVR 234 million.

The state employees over 24,000 individuals, and President Abdulla Yameen had previously said that the changes will benefit those that work at lower-ranking positions the most.

Yameen is quoted to have said that salaries for employees working at said positions would get salary hikes of at least 37 percent while higher-ranking employees are to be given hikes of 25 percent.

As the framework stands now, a number of employees at state offices receive a monthly compensation of less than MVR 5,000 (a little more than USD 320). Higher ranking officials get compensations of between MVR 7,000 to 10,000 (about USD 450 – 640).
