Suspension revoked for three more lawyers

DJA suspended 54 lawyers in late 2017 for proposing a petition to reform issues in the legal sector
Husnu Suood, and Mahfooz Saeed remain suspended

Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) on Wednesday announced that suspensions of three lawyers have been revoked, including that of opposition Adhaalath Party (AP)’s deputy leader Ali Zahir.

Zahir, Shashma Abdul Razzaq, and Shahra Moosa have been allowed to practice law after they were banned for protesting near the Supreme Court three months ago.

The administration suspended 54 lawyers on 10 September 2017 for proposing a petition to reform issues in the legal sector. DJA claimed the lawyers rallied outside the Supreme Court illegally, which compromised the independence of the judiciary and judges.

DJA has said they will be lifting the suspensions as they continue their investigation.

While some lawyers have since been allowed to practice law, Husnu Suood, and Mahfooz Saeed remain suspended.
