Shifaz, Niyaz, Ali Azim issued summons for illegal gathering

Niyaz summoned for 10pm on Tuesday

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has issued summons on several senior figures at Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), for allegedly holding an illegal gathering.

Chits were issued on Monday on MDP Deputy Leader Mohamed Shifaz, Chairperson Finance Ali Niyaz, Central Henveyru Constituency MP Ali Azim and MDP Inguraidhoo Constituency Member Hassan Ahmed.

Shifaz is to produce himself at MPS headquarters at 5pm on Tuesday, while Hassan Ahmed is to go at 6.30pm. Azim is scheduled for 8.30pm and Ali Niyaz at 10.00pm.

All are summoned for allegations of holding a protest in an illegal area.

RaajjeMV understands that they are being summoned regarding the protest held in front of MDP haruge area on the 19th of this month. Though many had participated in the protest, RaajjeMV understands that summons was issued on the four only.

This is the first time summons were issued on an individual for protesting in front of haruge area.
