All councilors of Maafushi island of Kaafu atoll have been suspended indefinitely.

RaajjeMV understands that the Local Government Authority (LGA) notified them of their suspension on Wednesday over a complaint filed by Kaafu Atoll Council.

The authorities have not disclosed details of the complaint.

LGA has recently begun penalizing councilors and compromising the councils’ independence.

Local councilors of Gaaf Alif Atoll have been suspended for meeting Ambassador Mishra after LGA issued a notice to its councilors that they should seek the Ministry of Home Affairs approval first before holding meetings with diplomats.

The President of Dhidhdhoo Council has also been arrested.
