Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has chimed in on the attempts made by parliamentarians to acquire a word on the state of the seats, supporting them.
Maumoon said in a post on his official Twitter account that the parliamentarians have ‘every right’ to do so, and that the court ‘cannot keep silent’ on the matter.
Our MPs have every right to demand a clear and unambiguous word from Maldives Supreme Court on the status of their membership. Supreme Court cannot keep silent any more on this landmark issue.

The Elections Commission has decided that 12 lawmakers, all aligned with the opposition, had lost their seats in accordance to a Supreme Court decision on floor-crossing.
A case asking the court to interpret laws on political parties and the allegiances elected representatives have to them, was filed by the Attorney General’s Office.
