Education Minister Dr. Aishath Shiham has stated that schools will not fully rely on technology in delivering lessons but it will be used as a teaching aid.

In her speech to mark the start of the academic year, Dr. Shiham stated that the Government wanted to provide state of the art education with the assistance of technology. As such, the system will seek to connect schools in Male’ and some schools in the outer lying Atolls in order to provide well rounded education to students.

This year, the Minister said, will see schools fully equipped with free Wi-Fi and tablets for students. She also said that a management system will be used to collect statistics, attendance and other similar administrative tasks.

This year, as per Education Ministry statistics, 81,000 students will study in 226 schools across the nation. This includes 7,600 children that started pre-school and 7,682 children who started grade one.
