Schools have begun for the academic year 2018.
Schools resumed after a holiday that lasted almost two months.
At the time the Ministry of Education had faced criticism for being unprepared for the new academic year, after an announcement was made for over 400 teachers just days before schools began. The announcement came after Education Minister Dr. Aishath Shiham had claimed the sector was prepared for the year.
This year, schools across the Maldives will begin using tablets in delivering lessons. The project is to begin from May onward.
This year, as per Education Ministry statistics, 81,000 students will study. This includes 7,600 children that started pre-school and 7,682 children who started grade one.
Education Ministry had also revealed that enrollment rates had increased under the past four years of the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) administration. The rates had increased from 19 percent to 32 percent. The Ministry also revealed that 5,200 students had graduated from various fields in the past four years.
