Number of High Court judges remains unchanged, months after deadline
Deadline to appoint new judges was reached three months ago

The number of High Court judges has remained unchanged, despite an amendment requiring an increase to 11 judges.
The amendment to the Judicature Act, ratified on June 18, set the total number of judges on the High Court bench to 11.
The deadline to implement the amendment was reached on September 18.
Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has reportedly been unable to appoint new judges due to their meetings failing to reach a quorum.
High Court bench currently consists of nine seats, but since two of them were empty since the amendment, JSC has to appoint four new judges.
Applicants to the post have already been interviewed, and the only stage left is to choose the appointees.
High Court bench currently consists of Chief Judge Abdulla Didi, Judge Shujau Usman, Judge Abdul Ghanee Mohamed, Judge Abdulla Hameed, Judge Shuaib Hussain Zakariyya, Judge Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, and Judge Ali Sameer.
Judge Shujau, Judge Abdul Ghanee, and Judge Shuaib are working at the southern branch in Addu city’s Hithadhoo.
