A suspected lightning strike damaged the Kulhudhuffushi Friday Mosque on Friday.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, island council President Abdul Latheef Hassan said the incident occurred during a thunderstorm at 6:20pm, but could not confirm whether the damage was due to a lightning strike.

He said the mosque electrical wiring, fans, lights, and sockets have been damaged.

During the incident, a piece of floor tile broke away and cut the imam’s face, he said, adding that others inside at the time were also injured
