CMEC's housing units are unprecedented in quality, says Housing Minister
CMEC had built a total of 1,500 flats in different regions of the country

The 1,500 housing units developed by the China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) will be the benchmark in quality for such projects in the future, said Housing Minister Mohamed Muizzu.
At the event held on Monday to handover said housing units from the China’s state-operated company to the Maldivian government, Minister Muizzu said that the government has put ‘tremendous effort’ into ensuring that these flats have been built.
“1,500 families can live in these flats comfortably, we believe that this would greatly improve the standard of living for our people” Muizzu said, having added that 704 of said housing units have been built in Hulhumalé, the capital city’s fast-growing urban extension.
Muizzu said that these flats will have three bedrooms with attached bathrooms in addition to a kitchen and a front room. The quality of these housing units is unprecedented, Muizzu assured.
CMEC was given the project to develop said housing units on December 9th, 2014. The project was financed also by a loan from China’s national bank.
704 of the housing units were built in Hulhumalé, 264 in Hithadhoo of Addu City, 48 in Hulhu-Meedhoo of Addu City, 200 in Fuvahmulah, 120 in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo, 22 in Madaveli of the same atoll, 24 in Hoadedhoo, 50 in Gaddhoo, and 52 in Villingili of Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
