Obstruction charges raised on MP Riyaz

Obstruction charges has been raised on Jumhooree Party Deputy Leader and Kinbidhoo Constituency MP Abdullah Riyaz.

Speaking to local media sources, an official with the Prosecutor General’s Office said the charges were raised under clause 511 (a) and (c) (ii) of the Penal. The official also confirmed the case was filed in Criminal Court on Thursday.

RaajjeMV understands obstruction charges were raised on MP Riyaz after an alleged chatlog between a state employee and MP Riyaz was discovered during a check of his phone on March 27th. No details were revealed by PG.

Clause 511 (a) of the Penal Code states that any direct or indirect illegal communication with a state employee is a criminal offense.

If proven guilty, MP Riyaz stands to serve a jail sentence of nine months and 18 days.
