Officers of the Maldives Correctional Service must have enough integrity and restore public faith, said Home Minister Azleen Ahmed.

Speaking at a graduation event for officers on Monday night, Minister Azleen said that the service must display such discipline and rectitude that it discourages acts of bribery and corruption.

The minister went on to say that anything other than such levels of sincerity will only serve to ‘deteriorate trust and foundation of state institutions’.

“There is not state institution anywhere in the world where its members comprise of people who are completely honest, but we must strive to refrain and distance ourselves from bribery or illegal activity of any kind” Azleen said in his address.

The graduation qualified 29 more officers to join the Maldives Correctional Service, and Minister Azleen told them that the ‘true test’ is awaiting them, referring to the future as full-fledged members of the service.

Senior officials of the service had participated in the event.
