Tuesday's hearing against MP Faris cut short, defence given time to study documents
The documents have to do with the police's timeline of their search of MP Faris' residence in July

MP Faris Maumoon has been given time to study documents in the case of bribery allegations made against him, therefore hearing scheduled for Tuesday has cut short.
The parliamentarian said at the start of the hearing that he has received all the documents relevant to the charges made against him, but not adequate time to study and discuss them with his lawyers.
Faris said in court that he has not been given opportunity to meet with his legal representatives in the week that he has been in possession of said documents.
The documents reportedly have to do with a timeline of the police operation where officers entered and searched Faris’ home in July.
However, his lawyers have attested that this timeline will not be used as evidence against Faris by the prosecution.
The next hearing for the case will be held in the following week. Faris is facing allegations of attempting to bribe parliamentarians ahead of a vote of no-confidence against parliament speaker Abdulla Maseeh.
Faris has been remanded until sentencing, a decision challenged by his lawyers who say that the state’s anonymous witnesses and secret evidence cannot tampered with and therefore his incarceration is unjust and unnecessary.
