The Maldives Broadcasting Commission’s website has been down for hours due to a technical problem.

An official from the commission said that the website has been down since Tuesday morning, but did not elaborate as to what the technical problem is.

Those who visit the page as it is currently get the ‘Error 500’ message, telling them that it is ‘unable to handle the request at the time’.

The MBC has faced scrutiny for reported allegiances to the government – with a commission member being recorded organizing an event held by the ruling party and for its ‘unfair’ penalties against broadcasters.

In late October, the ruling party submitted a bill to dissolve the MBC and the Maldives Media Council (MMC).
