Addu Meedhoo Constituency MP Rozaina Adam says that her constituents will not be swayed by ‘gifts in envelopes’ handed by First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim.
Speaking in the rally held in Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) headquarters, the Parliamentarian said the First Lady and the senior figures of this administration were severely disconnected from the lives of everyday citizens.
Referring to the speeches made by cabinet Ministers in the rally held in the weekend in Addu City, MP Rozaina said the citizens were at odds with the speeches of the Ministers. Given the plight of citizens, she questioned whether if the citizens wanted a second and similar term led by President Yameen.
She further noted that developing roads of Addu City had languished since the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed. This, MP Rozaina said, was not caused by lack of resources.
She further said real support was seen by the results of the Local Council Elections earlier this year when President Yameen’s faction suffered a humiliating loss.
She stressed that Addu City cannot be swayed by ‘gifts’ handed out by the First Lady and her team, calling out for a proper review of how the trips were funded.
