Police have arrested a 44-year-old man in Fuvahmulah island with two rubber packets of what officers believe to hold narcotic substances.

The man was searched at around 14:10 on 11th August. While officers had not found any such substances on his person, they found the aforesaid rubber packets in a pile of sand near his location.

The rubber packets had 12 pieces wrapped in cellophane, the Maldives Police Service said – adding that they are further investigating the case.

The Fuvahmulah Magistrate Court had remanded the man by five days.
