MP Waheed’s appeal begins a week after his release

High Court has scheduled the hearings of the appeal of the arrest of Thulusdhoo Constituency MP Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim, a week after his release from Police custody.

The appeal has been set for 0930hrs on Thursday. This is the first hearings of the case.

MP Waheed was arrested on July 24th outside of Maafannu Kunooz, the headquarters for coalition member Jumhooree Party, on charges that he had trespassed Parliament grounds after breaking Police ranks. His remand had been extended by three times following his arrest.

He was released from Police custody on the 17th of this month, after he was summoned to Court for remand extension hearings. MP Waheed was released with the stipulations that he would not attempt any illegal activities and to cooperate with the ongoing trials.

The state had raised two charges against MP Waheed; namely, obstruction and trespassing charges.

In addition to MP Waheed, Vilingili Constituency MP Saud Hussain and Maduvvari Constituency MP Mohamed Ameeth’s appeal over their arrests had been filed in High Court. The Court is yet to hear their cases. Both had been released.
