Journalists to be barred from entering Committee sessions: MP Mahloof
Parliament heads to recess in September
Journalists will be housed in a separate room, given video feeds
Last Parliament session held in July

Galolhu South MP Ahmed Mahloof says that journalists covering the Committee sessions at the Parliament are to be granted restricted access to the sessions.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, the Parliamentarian, said that in the near future, journalists will be housed in a separate room for the media and will be granted live video feeds from the Committee room. Parliament Secretariat will have full control over showing live feeds from the Parliament Committees.

When the decision in implemented, journalists will have access only to video and audio that is deemed appropriate by the Secretariat.

There has been increasing difficulties in gaining live feeds of Parliament session. Live feeds of the last Parliament were not provided to media. The proceedings were broadcast by Addu Meedhoo Constituency MP Rozaina Adam, who had broadcast the entire session through Facebook Live.

MP Mahloof added that Secretariat had indicated that a Parliament session will be held on Monday and the 24th of this month, afterwards which the Parliament will head to recess.

Only eight sessions of the Parliament had been held since the Parliament sessions began on June 5th. The last session was held on July 31st. No sessions had been held in August.
