The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has found the weapon used to attack a police officer in Maafushi island on Saturday in the island’s lagoon.

The weapon was discovered by search divers that were part of the police’s operation to investigate the incident.

Constable Ali Razzan sustained injuries between his left shoulder and chest as he, and a number of his colleagues stationed at the Maafushi prison attempted to subdue a man who was forcing his way onto the island.

The man in question had disboarded a speed boat that the police’s intelligence officers believe had left Malé city with items meant to be smuggled into the prison.

Earlier, the MPS’ media official told RaajjeMV that the man, along with the captain of the speed boat and two other passengers, have been apprehended. The police have also seized a number of items that were reportedly meant to be smuggled onto the island.

The police have apprehended a 51-year-old, two 32-year-olds, and a minor.
