Parliament lockdown has ended after six days.
Galolhu South Constituency MP Ahmed Mahloof tweeted that the locks from the gates were removed just after midnight on Saturday.
Parliament was placed under lockdown on the 24th of this month, after opposition MPs had attempted to enter Parliament. This had occurred after the Parliament threw out the no confidence motion on Parliament Speaker Abdullah Maseeh.
The motion was thrown out after Parliament Secretariat declared that four of the 45 MPs who had signed the no confidence motion had lost their seats. The Secretariat had also declared that one other MP had withdrawn his signature. Therefore, the motion did not have the required votes to enter the Parliament.
A Parliament session was scheduled for the 24th. However, the Secretariat had announced no sessions will be held on that day, due to Independence Day celebrations. A session was then set for 31st of this month.
While the locks on Parliament have been removed, cases have been raised against opposition MPs for having broken Police ranks outside Parliament ranks on the 24th.
Parliamentarians Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim, Saud Hussain, Mohamed Ameeth and Ahmed Faris Maumoon are jailed. All except MP Faris have been given remands of 15 days. MP Faris has been detained for the duration of the trail against him.
