Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom says that the manipulation of the justice system for achieving political ends is a crime against democracy and that it must stop.
He made the statement in a tweet posted on Wednesday.

In this tweet, the former President had called on to free his son and Dhiggaru Constituency MP Faris Maumoon.
Elections Commission (EC) had on Wednesday announced that by-elections will be held for four Constituencies, after MPs Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim, Mohamed Ameeth, Abdul Latheef Mohamed and Saud Hussain had all lost their Parliamentary seats following the Supreme Court ruling.
