Minister Dunya’s tweet over brother’s arrest sparks outrage

Public outrage had sparked after State Minister of Health Ministry, Dunya Maumoon, tweeted regarding her brother’s arrest.
Dunya’s brother Dhiggaru Constituency MP Faris Maumoon was arrested on Tuesday.
Dunya, who had resigned from her position as Foreign Minister after dealing strong criticism of the Government, had rejoined her uncle and President Abdullah Yameen’s administration afterwards, in a lesser Cabinet post of State Minister for Health.
The tweet posted on Tuesday said that she wished her brother and his wife strength during this time. The tweet was attached with a photo of the four siblings.
Most had criticized Dunya for her stance in defence of her Uncle’s administration, rather than defending her brother. Many had said Dunya should tender in her resignation in protest and that this situation was deeply embarrassing for her. Others had questioned on why she was compelled to remain in her position in this situation.
A subsequent tweet was issued in response to the criticism, where Dunya said that blood was thicker than water.
Dhiggaru Constituency MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon was arrested on Thursday following a search of his residence.
