The parliament has scheduled a general-purpose committee meeting to set the duration of debate over the no-confidence motion against parliament speaker Abdulla Maseeh for Thursday.

The secretariat said that the committee meeting has been scheduled for 14:00. The committee had previously set the duration at one-and-a-half hours for an earlier motion against Maseeh, and gave the speaker a total of 30 minutes to respond.

The 45-signature motion was proposed in parliament on the 3^rd of this month. The signatures come from 11 parliamentarians aligned with the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

Parliamentarians will vote on the motion next Monday, the 24^th of July.
