The parliament has scheduled a general-purpose committee meeting to set the duration of debate over the no-confidence motion against parliament speaker Abdulla Maseeh for Thursday.

The secretariat said that the committee meeting has been scheduled for 14:00. The committee had previously set the duration at one-and-a-half hours for an earlier motion against Maseeh, and gave the speaker a total of 30 minutes to respond.

The 45-signature motion was proposed in parliament on the 3rd of this month. The signatures come from 11 parliamentarians aligned with the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

Parliamentarians will vote on the motion next Monday, the 24th of July.
