Member of Parliament for North Addu Hithadhoo constituency, Mohamed Aslam has been announced as the running mate for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s candidate President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, for the upcoming Presidential Election.
MDP made the announcement on Saturday.
Aslam is the leader of the MDP parliamentary group and the majority leader of the parliament. He has been working with the MDP since its inception.
Aslam has also worked with the President in the Parliament for many years.
President Solih has told reporters earlier that he would decide his running mate after much deliberation. He said he would seek the opinion of senior party leaders in the decision.
This year's Presidential Election will be held on 09 September. The deadline for nominations for the election expires on Monday.
So far, MDP, JP, MNP, PPM, The Democrats and MRM have announced their decision to contest in the election.
