The Maldivian Government has spent MVR 6.1 billion on Public Sector Investment Projects

The Maldivian Government has spent MVR 6.1 billion on Public Sector Investment Projects

The Maldivian Government has spent MVR 6.1 billion on Public Sector Investment Projects (PSIP), by 13 July 2023.

According to the statistics publicized by the Ministry of Finance, the highest expenditure was made on projects related to the transport sector. As such, the state has so far spent MVR two billion on this sector; with MVR 824.3 million spent on airport development projects, MVR 682 million spent on harbor development projects during this time frame and MVR 528.8 million was spent on bridge development projects.

Additionally, MVR 1.5 billion has been spent on road development and land reclamation projects. As such, the state has so far spent MVR 765 million on land reclamation projects and MVR 739.5 million on road development projects.

Ministry's statistics show that MVR 494.4 million has been spent on housing and infrastructure projects.

Additionally, MVR 72.9 million has been spent on general administration projects.

The government has spent MVR 873.4 million on water and sewerage development projects. This includes MVR 697.8 million on installation of water and sewerage systems in islands, MVR 115.3 million spent on water systems and MVR 60.3 million spent on sewerage system installation.

Ministry's statistics goes on to reveal that MVR 257.4 million has been spent on the education sector.

While MVR 180.3 million has been spent on coastal protection projects, MVR 76.4 million was spent on waste management projects.

Statistics also shows that MVR 221.5 million was spent on the social and religious services. As such, MVR 46.5 million has been spent on mosques.

Furthermore, MVR 120.1 million was spent on health sector development projects.

The Maldivian Government's expenditure currently sits at MVR 24.9 billion according to the Finance Ministry statistics.
