The high-security prison in Maafushi island of Kaafu atoll
A physical row in a cell at the Maafushi prison in Kaafu atoll has left an inmate injured.
The assault happened on Friday at Unit 9’s second wing. While RaajjeMV understands that the Maldives Correctional Services is investigating the matter, no further details have been provided.
Authorities are yet to state the extent of the injury although they have confirmed that the inmate has received treatment.
Officers of the correctional services have increased security at Maafushi’s Unit 9, and this assault was the first in a long time.
