Dhiraagu (Dhivehi Raajjeyge Gulhun), the oldest telecommunications provider in the country, has established high-speed internet service at the Kudakudhinge Hiyaa in Villimalé, which provides shelter for under-privileged children.

The company had reportedly made donations as well, which include computer systems to the shelter’s computer lab and books to its library.

Said items were officially handed over to the Ministry of Gender and Family, which operates the shelter, at an event on Tuesday, by the company’s Managing Director Ismail Rasheed. They were received by the Gender Ministry’s permanent secretary, Aiminath Shifana.

The company had first provided internet services to Kudakudhinge Hiyaa in 2008, when it had also made donations to cover specific operational costs, such as the salaries of its academic staff.

Dhiraagu has also provided high-speed internet services to the Kudakudhinge Hiyaa in Hulhumalé.  

The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race is an annual marathon, registered with the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races, held for a social cause. The cause for this year’s race, which would be its 10th marathon thus far, is protecting children'
