FENAKA Corporation says that a temporary electricity solution has been provided for Fiyoaree Island in Gaaf Dhaal Atoll.

The Corporation’s Managing Director Ahmed Shareef said that currently a temporary solution had been provided for the island and that a permanent solution will be provided in the coming days. Shareef added the transfer to the new powerhouse was delayed due to bad weather.

Power went out in the island around 6pm and resumed at around midnight on Saturday. Following the tragic fire in the powerhouse in April, electricity was provided to the island by a backup generator from another island. A youth had died in the fire.

Previously the island was supported by three generators. The 250-kilowatt generator was decimated in the fire.
