Sofwan to be charged in absentia
Summons sent to submit himself on June 1st
Ahmed Sofwan, personal assistant to former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom
Maldives Police Service (MPS) says they will file charges on Ahmed Sofwan, personal assistant to former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, if he fails to summon himself to police in a seven-day period.
A statement released by the Police had ordered Sofwan to present himself to police within a seven-day period. If he fails to do so, then the police warned that they will forward the case to Prosecutor General with the evidence they have collected against him.
Summons were first issued on Sofwan on May 25th to submit himself to the Police on June 1st, to answer questions on an ongoing investigation.
RaajjeMV understands that the summons was issued on Sofwan on the investigation into the bribery allegations on Parliamentarians.
Sofwan is currently abroad. A statement by Home Ministry on the issue stated that, Sofwan is a fugitive and had fled the country with the assistance of former President Maumoon and his family.
