Summary arguments set for Wednesday

Criminal Court has scheduled hearings of the case on RaajjeTV Chief Operating Officer Hussain Fiyaz Moosa for Wednesday on charges of touching an officer illegally.

The summons issued by Criminal Court stated that hearings are scheduled for 11am.

The last hearings of Fiyaz was held on February 2nd.

Fiyaz has been charged with “touching an officer without consent,” over an arrest made in November 2015, while covering a bomb scare in the capital Male’ City. While it is classified as a third-degree crime, the basic penalty for it is, one month and seven days in prison.

State had filed the charges on Fiyaz, alleging that he had attacked a police officer while officers were attempting to disperse the crowd near Mulee-aage, with officers working to defuse a bomb which was discovered in the area.

In the last hearings held in February, the Court had heard the witness statements from both the prosecution and the defense. Court had accepted the witness statements of three witnesses presented by the State, rejecting four other witnesses.
