New party MNP "confident" of winning 2023 presidential elections
The party aims to win the 2023 elections
Elections Commission of Maldives gave the greenlight to form MNP on July 15
This was announced at the party's first-ever press conference on Monday

New political party, Maldives National Party or MNP has expressed confidence that it will win the 2023 presidential elections.

Former defence minister and current parliament representative for Dhangethi constituency, Mohamed Nazim revealed this at the party's first-ever press conference on Monday.

Revealing that the party will be nominating a candidate for the 2023 election, Nazim said that its aim is to win presidency. The former minister also expressed confidence in achieving this goal.

He said that the work to increase membership is underway, adding that 50 percent of the population have no political affiliations.

Nazim said that they will be targeting those still undecided to join the party, while noting that all are welcome to MNP.

Noting that membership registration process has already commenced, MNP said that a party office will be opened in capital Male' in the next few days. Work is also underway to establish party wings in inhabited islands.

The MNP leader said that the party aims to ensure all rights and liberties guaranteed to the people, adding that requests of all citizens will be duly considered.

Elections Commission of Maldives gave the greenlight to form MNP on July 15 to Villimale' constituency MP Ahmed Usham, after submitting the 3,000 signatures to form a political party as required.
