Three people were injured in a fire aboard a fishing vessel on Saturday.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said that a fire had erupted aboard a fishing vessel 26 miles off Kolhufushi island in Meemu on Saturday morning, and that the matter was reported at around 9am.

While crew members are to have extinguished the fire quickly, three of them sustained injuries. They are to be transferred to Muli Regional Hospital, in the same atoll, for treatment.

MNDF said that a petrol tank onboard the vessel had caught fire. No further details have been revealed.

Two of the four victims in the fire aboard a boat docked near Thinadhoo island of Gaafu Dhaalu atoll back in November, died earlier this month. The cause of the fire was a gas leak.
