Powerhouse fire causes power outage in Narudhoo

A fire had broken out in the powerhouse in Naradhoo island of Shaviyani atoll.
The chair of the island’s council Abdulla Shafeeq said that the island’s 80 kilowatt generators was the origin of the fire, which has resulted in a complete power outage in the island.
The fire, which reportedly broke out at around 11:45 am, had engulfed the powerhouse’s ceiling and offices.
“The power house staff were quick to act, and through their efforts, we were able to quell the fire rather soon” Shafeeq said.
He further said that the council is now working to bring a generator from the powerhouse in Kelaa island of Haa Alif atoll.
