Young man dies after diving from a boat based in R. Dhuvaafaru

Police have reported that a young man from R. Dhuvaafaru has died after his condition deteriorated following a diving excursion from a fishing vessel in the Shaviyani Atoll maritime area. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the local health center.
According to the police, the deceased in this incident has been identified as 30-year-old Mohamed Shaffan, of Lilymage, R. Dhuvaafaru.
Police reported receiving a distress call at approximately 3:20 PM on September 22, 2024, regarding a diver from a vessel based in R. Dhuvaafaru. The individual reportedly fell ill after returning to the boat and was subsequently transported to the Sh. Maroshi Health Center for emergency treatment.
Police stated that the health center informed them the young man had already passed away by the time he was brought to the facility.
Police are currently investigating the incident.
