President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu departed for the United Kingdom on Tuesday.

A high-level delegation from the Maldivian government is accompanying the president on his trip to UK.

The President's Office stated that the trip is "to participate in high-level meetings and events."

As part of the trip, Muizzu will participate in meetings aimed at further strengthening the relationship between the Maldives and the United Kingdom. The President's Office also revealed that these meetings will revolve around discussions about governance, climate and environmental issues, as well as further cooperation in business, investment, and education.

In addition to this, the Maldivian leader is scheduled to participate in a business forum in London.

The President's Office also shared that the presidential visit will further strengthen the relationship between the Maldives and the United Kingdom, which is built on a foundation of mutual respect and trust between the two nations.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the United Kingdom were officially established on 26 July 1965.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

This is Muizzu's second official trip to the United Kingdom this year. In April, the president visited Liverpool to participate in a tourism promotion campaign with Liverpool FC.

Last November, Muizzu also made an unofficial trip to the United Kingdom with the First Lady.
