Maldives Police Service (MPS) have refuted their previous claims that they knew who had murdered social media activist, Yameen Rasheed. Police now claims that the suspects were in disguise and therefore their identities were unknown.
Various online publications quoted information provided to the family of the deceased by Police, that the attackers were in disguise. Therefore, the Police were unable to identify them.
However, during the press conference held on the 25th of this month, Police said that they have been able to identify the attackers, as they were on the CCTV footage. Police also said they will be brought to justice. Police had even released two photos taken from CCTV footages of the night, showing the attackers.
Police media official refused to comment on these reports, adding that the case was already under investigation.
The new reports by the Police have unleashed severe criticism from the public.
A week had passed since Yameen’s murder shook the nation.
