The Elections Commission (EC) has stated that there is no obstacle to holding president-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s inauguration ceremony on November 11.

The EC made the decision at a meeting on Sunday.

EC member Ahmed Akram told RaajjeMV that they made the decision to abide by the president-elect's request.

Responding to Solih’s request via a letter, the EC stated that since it had announced that President Abdulla Yameen’s term will end on November 11, there is no legal obstacle to holding Solih’s inauguration on the same day.

While the attorney general’s office earlier notified the EC that President Yameen’s term will end on November 17, the Constitution also recommends that the new president-elect take his oath on November 11.
