Officers of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) in Maalhos island of Baa atoll have taken down a banner put up by supporters of the Joint Opposition coalition that reads, “1,000 days for the thief, a single day for the citizens”.
A source actively involved in the opposition coalition’s campaign activities in the island confirmed that the officers had taken the banner down sometime on Wednesday and that they had not stated a specific reason for it.
The source further said that the police had initially ordered the island council to take the banner down, given them a period of two days to take the banner down, and then proceeded to take the banner down by themselves.
Reports have it that a majority of Maalhos island has supporters of the opposition coalition.
