Housing units for civil service employees yet to be handed

It has been revealed that documents of the flats allocated for civil service employees have not yet been handed to them, even though the deadline has long passed.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure on the 12th of October 2017, Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had stated that 1,000 out of the 7,000 flats to be developed in Hulhumale’ would be allocated for civil service employees.

The flat distributions among civil service employees had been categorized into three categories and Muizzu had said that this decision was reached upon President Abdulla Yameen’s initiative. He further said that the issued faced by citizens in the capital city Male’ will be solved once the flats are completed. As such, Muizzu guaranteed 26% housing for civil service employees.

The housing Minister revealed that window will be opened for applications from the 01st of November onwards and that education qualifications as well as duration of employment will be checked before a conclusion is reached.

Window for applications will be opened till the 15th of January 2019.

Minister Muizzu further stated that those who live in tight spaces and face difficulties in their living conditions will be prioritized when allocating flats for applicants.

Flats will be granted to employees at a particular level, among civil service employees.

As such, 300 flats will be given to employees at management and administrative levels. 400 flats will be allocated for employees in support service.

While 7,000 flats were announced to be developed in 2017, the Ministry announced at additional 8,000 housing units to be developed this year. This includes ones that will be established in outlying atolls as well.

The Housing Ministry had however, not revealed a reason as to why flats have not yet been allocated for applicants of the housing units, with the ministry having failed to answer calls from RaajjeMV to inquire on the matter.
